I have officially named today's happenings The Great Quakepocalypse of 2011. It basically shut down Philadelphia for like an hour, LOL.

LOL, aw, I wish it shut NJ down.

It wasn't official (though City Hall and the courts DID shut down officially)....moreso people freaked out and ran out of the high-rises, LOL. And then people throughout the business district milled about outside for an hour. Which is apparently the exact opposite of what you're supposed to do in an earthquake!

LOL. Well apparently the hurricane is...did you see they're doing evacuations of some of the coastal counties?

Yes! I know so many people who are refusing to leave, and are just hunkering down. Apparently, if you refuse to leave you have to give your name, address and social security number. Morbid!

Wow. LOL. Glad I don't live too close to the coast...

*grin* I'm sorry, but it's so amusing to see how many people are freaking out over this. When I read it was a 5.6, I thought, "Wait, is that a typo?" Out here in LaLaLand, we wouldn't even feel a 5.6 earthquake.

LOL I know, Brad is from CA, he was laughing at my shock.

5.9 is nothing to sneeze at! Even here in California that would merit a bit more than a lifted eyebrow (anything 5.0 on down is a wake-up call).

I'm worried about the architecture back there - bricks and such, not designed to deal with seismic activity.

Yeah, it is a little odd...not something we think about out there.

Yesterday, CO had it's biggest recorded quake in 40 years (5.3). But no one cares because it was down in some podunk truckstop. And most Coloradans are like, "Wait, we have earthquakes? Ain't that a hoot!"

(We do have pretty regular earthquakes that are 3.0 and lower, but one you can feel is just weird).

Living in a country that has never (in the recorded history that is) had a quake bigger that 4,9 it's difficult to imagine what these things feel like. Glad to hear that you're okay (and from what I've read in the news the damage isn't too bad either?)

I don't think so, no. Some minor structural stuff from what I read.
